Starfish Wash Ashore

This past weekend hundreds of starfish washed ashore at my local beach, Isle of Palms. No one is quite sure why so many starfish were stranded but the leading thought is that it was caused by the unusually cold weather we have been having. Although it was sad to see so many of these beautiful creatures washed up it was fascinating to photograph.

The orange of their bodies contrasts beautifully with the sand.

(psst… don’t worry, their populations are so large that this is not destructive to their species.)

The Holidays in Charleston

It’s always so nice to spend the holidays in Charleston. While everyone else is getting snowed in and worrying about the cold we can still enjoy our days outside or at the beach. (Albeit bundled up because 40 is SO cold for us!) The Winter Holidays are always viewed as such a snowy time that I always get an extra chuckle out of all the palm trees throughout the city adorned with lights. Below are a few pictures I took on my families annual trip downtown to see the lights at Marion Square.

Shuttle Launch

Here’s a photo I shot of my daughter as she paddleboarded along Sullivan’s Island yesterday. In the background you can just see the streak of the space shuttle Atlantis as it was launched into space from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. It moved so fast I was only able to capture this one image!
